Portughese arrived in 1505 , they established a city a city at Kotte.- the western low lands. During 1815, Britishers came and gained upper hand . In1948, Sri Lanka became an independent nation. Now this nation is a member of Commonwealth of Nations, UNO etc. The mainstay of Sri lankan economy is agriculture. The major crop is rice.other important agricultural crops are tea, rubber and coconut. In recent past the tourism emerged as the front line busines.
