AARU PADAI VEEDU abode of Sri Muruga with RAMESWARAM

This 6 days pilgrimage visit to the six shrines dedicated to Lord Muruga in the southern state of Tamil Nadu. These six abodes are called Aarupadai Veedu whose translation means the "six war houses of the Lord". These six abodes attract thousands of followers from across the world, although there are countless temples dedicated to Muruga, who happens to be the son of Lord Shiva and Parvathi. In Tamil Nadu, these six specific temple are considered very important amongst the devotees and hence, deserve a special mention. Muruga is also known in various names, such as Karthikeya, Subramanya, Kumaran, etc. The six temples are : Tiruttani,Tiruvannamalai,Palani,Madurai,Tirupparankundram,Tiruchendur.Along with the Rameswaram which is known for Ramanathaswamy Temple, a Hindu pilgrimage site with ornate corridors, huge sculpted pillars and sacred water tanks. A chakra (wheel) here is said to bear an imprint of Lord Rama’s feet.

Day 1 : Chennai -Tiruttani –Tiruvannamalai
Arrive at Chennai pick up and transfer to hotel. After fresh up proceed to Tiruvannamalai (230 Kms/5-6 Hrs approx.) with the enrooted visit to Lord Murugan Temple in Tirithani and later proceed to Tiruvannamalai. On arrival check into hotel. Later visit Sri Arunachaleswarar Temple and Ramana Maharshi Ashramam.

Day 2 : Tiruvannamalai – Trichy - Palani

After break fast proceed to Palani. With enrouted visit to  Sree Rangnath Swami Temple  in Trichy  (almost 3 hrs of drive ) and the proceed to Palani (3hrs 30 mins).  Arrive at Palani and check into hotel.

Day 3 : Palani- Pazhamuthircholai -Tirupparankundram

Palani is home to one of the most sacred shrines of the God Subrahmanyan. Morning after  early breakfast visit the famous Thandayudhapani Temple dedicated to Lord Murugan. The temple situated atop the Sivagiri. Later proceed to Pazhamuthircholai (2 ½  Hrs) .This hill is also known as Vrishabhadri or Idabagiri. At the foot of the hill is situated Azhakar Kovil, which is one among the 108 divyadesams sanctified by the hymns of Azhwars sung in praise of the Vishnu enshrined in this temple. Atop the hill Lord Muruga stands majestically in the temple as the Lord of the Hills popularly known as Kurinji Nilakkizhavan in Tamil. Later proceed to Madurai (25 kms/1 Hrs). Arrive at Madurai and check into hotel. Evening visit Tirupparankundram Temple.

Day 4 : Tirupparankundram -Tiruchendur

After breakfast  Drive to Tiruchendur (3 Hrs approx.). Arrive at Tiruchendur and check into hotel, after rest in evening visit Tiruchendur Sri Balasubramanya Swamy Temple. The seashore temple of Muruga Perumal at Tiruchendur is one of the delightful spots sanctified and venerated by every Hindu.

Day 5 : Tiruchendur-Rameshwaram

Breakfast at the hotel. Later drive to Rameswaram (4-5 hrs)Rameswaram is an island of Lord Rama's temple at Tamil Nadu is a wonderful destination. Along with being a major pilgrimage for the Hindus, Rameswaram is a happening holiday spot too. Rameswaram is significant for the Hindus as a pilgrimage to Benaras is incomplete without a Pilgrimage to Rameswaram.

Overnight stay in Rameswaram.

Day 6 : Rameshwaram- Swamimalai

After breakfast proceed to Visit Swamimalai (almost 5-6 hrs) . There visit Temple of  Lord Karthikeya. The sacred story associated with this temple is that Lord Karthikeya expounds the meaning of pranavam (AUM) to His father, Lord Shiva, at this location. Hence, one can see the Lord Karthikeya depicted as Guru (teacher) and Lord Shiva listening as shishya (disciple) in the raja gopuram of the temple complex.

Day 7 : Swamimalai-Pondicherry

Breakfast at the hotel. Later visit Pondicherry (almost 3 hrs) southern state is one of the last pockets of French culture in India. . The town was settled in the early part of the 18th Century by the French.The city’s main attraction is the Aurobindo Ashram established in 1926 by the saint philosopher Sri Aurobindo. The Ashram is serene and has a flower festooned tomb of Sri Aurobindo and his successor the Mother. 10 kms out of town lies Auroville, a concept in international living designed by the Mother and the French architect Roger Anger. The focal point of Auroville is the Matrimandir, a meditation chamber.  Later enjoy sightseeing tour of Pondicherry. Rest of the day is free to explore Pondicherry.

Day 8 : Pondicherry – Chennai - Departure

Breakfast at the hotel.Later drive to  Chennai  (3 ½ Hrs )where on arrival  if time permits depending on your flight timming  visit city, touching Fort St. George, San Thome Cathedral and the museums that contain the world's most complete and impressive selection of Chola bronzes and stone sculptures from South India and the Deccan. Later in the afternoon assist transfer to Chennai Airport to connect flight to your home.
