At Vaikom you will have the opportunity to tour a coir carpet weaving center. Coir is a natural fiber extracted from the husk of coconuts, and here you will be able to observe the process of turning these fibers into colorful carpets, without the help of any modern machinery. Your guide leads you to the nearby Khadi weaving center, to watch the artisans hard at work. Your. Khadi is a handspun, and handwoven cloth made from cotton, silk or wool. The light-weight material is very popular in this hot climate because air can pass through easily.  As you cruise by, you'll view life in the many villages that dot the banks. You will then visit a local activity centre in Vaikom and an opportunity to see how the local people earn their livelihoods. View the ladies weaving coir ropes from dried coconut husks, see straw mats being woven out of wild pineapple leaves and watch the local potter create a range of pots and vases, depicting ethnic designs in clay. Here, you will also get a chance to visit a Coconut Oil Mill to see dried coconut, being crushed to extract Coconut Oil. On your return journey to Cochin, you will pay a short visit to a traditional Kerala church, before heading back to the ship.
